VIzon Christmas Event 2011 PDF Print E-mail
Chat - Regarding the #preppers chat room
Written by Dan Wolfe
Wednesday, 21 December 2011 17:44
As much expected, we will be again hosting a Christmas Event this year from 12/22 to 1/1. You might have guessed from the title that the event will be related to our lottery, VIzon. If you do not already know how VIzon works, please read here.

What's special for this event comparing to regular VIzon:
  1. There will be a drawing everyday throughout the event (i.e. 12/22 to 1/1)
  2. All current prizes will be upgraded to next level, i.e.:
    • Consolation prize: a custom colored vhost or one-worded (colored or non-colored) vhost of your choice for 30 days
    • 3rd prize: a custom colored vhost or one-worded (colored or non-colored) vhost of your choice for 60 days
    • 2nd prize: a custom colored vhost or one-worded (colored or non-colored) vhost in bold of your choice for 120 days
    • 1st prize: a permanent custom colored vhost or one-worded (colored or non-colored) vhost in bold of your choice
NB: just as in regular VIzon, consolation prize will not be counted in multiplication factors
  3. Extra prizes for matching 1 and 2 numbers:
    • Matched 1 number: colored vhost "merry.christmas.nick" with "nick" being your nick with special characters removed (other than "-")
    • Matched 2 numbers: colored vhost "merry.christmas.nick" with "nick" being your nick with special characters removed (other than "-") plus a random color on the nick
NB: the wordings will be changed over time according to occasions

You can claim these prizes (i.e. matching 1 or 2 numbers) of the latest drawing before the next one, e.g. if VIzon No.078 has been drawn and you matched 1 number in that drawing, you can claim your prize before VIzon No.079 takes place by typing:
    Code:

    /notice guuchan !claim 078
Once VIzon No.079 is drawn, you will lose your entitlement to the prize of No.078 and will only be available to claim the prize of No.079 if you win again. To check if you have matched any number in a certain drawing, e.g. VIzon No.078, type:
    Code:

    /notice guuchan !check 078
Note that the colored vhost of these prizes are temporary and will be gone once you take it off or disconnect from the network. You can regain it though by claiming it again during the entitlement period.

If for some reason you want to take off the colored vhost, you can do one of the followings:
    • If you have a vhost assigned to your nick, activate your vhost (i.e. "/msg HostServ on")
    • "/mode your_nick -x" (then "/mode your_nick +x" if you want to remask your host)
    • Reconnect to the network

Have fun, enjoy the event, and Merry Christmas!

The Farm - Looking for Land
Written by Dan Wolfe
Sunday, 27 November 2011 18:59

When we decided that this was the last chance to finish off getting our dream started, that if progress wasn't made in the direction of getting the farm, or give up and move onto plan “B” (re: boat). Something happened.

There have been barriers to us getting the farm, and we had piled together the bulk of it into three parts. The first part was related to income, which has dropped dramatically. The second part was actually getting to the farm since we knew our only real choice was in Ontario, and the final third part was getting the farm itself.

The year 2011 will always be remembered as the year of hell. I worked my tail off, not only trying to get employment, but getting in over my head on many side projects. Last May we thought we were really close to getting the farm since a huge debt was finally gone, my student loan. But just after that, work dropped to nothing, and we ended back in debt to the sum of almost 5 grand. Most of the debt went to food, preps were all used up long before I thought they would, (lesson learned multiple the food prep list you think you need by ten).

Two nights ago, my second oldest jumped on a plane to Toronto, one of the reasons for the trip was to surprise my sister at her engagement party, so I had to keep mum on the second reason. The second reason was to check out farms for us to buy. Less then a week ago, I was at the point of giving up when we literally pulled a rabbit out of hat, debt free, with money to move to Ontario we are now active in packing up everything and sorting everything. We have part two and three taken care of. As for part one... that actually came first, (more on that at a future date).

Now we have a list of things to do to get there that include such items as canceling our home phone line, closing our hydro account, etc.... it's amazing how many little things there are left to do, not to mention packing and sorting... it's the sorting that's the killer, we intended to buy a place here originally, so there is lots of stuff that is just not going to make the trip.

Well … only 100 things to do on my list, so far, so I will post online here on my blog as we go along, but I am not getting involved in anything else till I turn the keys in my new home. So if I finish off a couple of things on the list each day, ... I'll be counting down the days. :)

--- more soon.

- Wolfe

Passing this on to those that are interested. Please remember OPSEC before you agree to anything. - Wolfe

Dear Dan:
Greetings. I am not sure if you are in contact or could recommend any preppers in the USA.  I am currently casting a pilot for Spike TV.

We are looking for a host who is knowledgeable and experienced with survival and preparing for catastrophes. Our host will visit the homes of clients who want to know what they should do, and who are grossly unprepared. Our host should know the world of 'apocalypse prepping' and feel confident walking into a home and giving them the education they need to survive under almost any circumstance. I can be reached at 310-857-8575.
Thank you for your consideration.

Just to keep you all up to date on the latest, I am currently offline till further notice. We have ended up trapped in a economic disaster that was beyond our control due to a lack of income. And with winter approaching it doesn't look like things are going to get better for us till painting picks up.

Dear Dan Wolfe,

I received this e-mail from my friend Rand Paul yesterday and I want to make sure you see it too.

Whether Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, or other, I doubt anyone who subscribes to my gun training reports wants one million Garand rifles banned from the hands of responsible, law abiding US citizens.

Help Rand Paul fight the Gun Grab by participating in his survey below and supporting his efforts as I have done.

Sincerely,

Wood Stoves Part Two PDF Print E-mail
The Farm - Looking for Land

You ever notice that if you lite a candle in a cold room that candle isn't enough to heat up the entire room? I know that sounds kinda obvious, but it is something to remember when buying a wood stove. A single small wood stove with only a 40,000 BTU EPA rating is not going to be enough to heat your entire house in Whitehorse, Yukon. However, it might be enough to heat up your bedroom. (*BTU = British Thermal Units, EPA = Environmental Protection Agency)
