Many of you likely remember an episode of M*A*S*H in which some orphans have a bad reaction to Tetanus shots, because they had horse meat as part of their diets. This is because the vaccine for tetanus is made with the help of the horses' immune system (making it even more noble IMHO), and can result in the human body having an allergic reaction to the vaccine.
But that isn't the only problem with eating horse meat. Horses in North America are pumped full of antibiotics and de-wormers. One class of which is a major problem, aminogycoside antibiotics, such as streptomycin, kanamycin and neomycin used on horses can stay within the animal up to 18 months, and would make the animal unfit to eat. They were first started for use in cattle in the 1940`s for use as the long-sought remedy for tuberculosis and other serious bacterial infections. The side effects of renal and auditory toxicity, however, led to a decline in it's use in the 1970s and 1980s.
But I suppose if I really had too, I'd eat it. For those Politically Correct Morons who seem to think that they can impose their view on others, I offer the following alternative to horse meat, otherwise known as long pig. (BITE ME! .... literally)
